Associate Professor
Dr. Olvera-Cravioto was born and raised in Mexico City, and came to the United States in 2001 to pursue her graduate studies at Stanford University. Before coming to UNC, she was a faculty member at Columbia University for 10 years and spent a couple of years at UC Berkeley. Her hobbies include swimming, running, reading and cooking.
Her research interests lie in the field of probability and include a variety of problems related to random graphs and processes that run on them. The applications of her work include the qualitative analysis of ranking algorithms such as Google’s PageRank, the computation of rare events in queueing networks, and the creation of new models for opinion propagation.
